MFR・MVR
Evaluation of the melt flow properties of thermoplastic resins (MFR, MVR)
Melt Mass Flow Rate (MFR) and Melt Volume Rate (MVR) are both numerical values that represent the flowability of thermoplastic resins during melting. The amount of resin extruded from a die with a specified diameter, located at the bottom of a cylinder, is measured under constant temperature and load conditions over a period of 10 minutes. The values are expressed in units of g/10min (MFR) and cm3/10min (MVR), respectively. There are two testing methods: Method A, which involves manually cutting the extrudate, and Method B, which automatically measures time (or distance). Method A is applicable to materials with an MFR of 0.1 to 25 (g/10min), while Method B is applicable to materials with an MFR of 0.1 to 50 (g/10min). Additionally, MI (Melt Index) is synonymous with MFR and was used in the polyolefin industry.
